Thank you very much for organising such a wonderful camp. Mizuki seems to have enjoyed it immensely. I’ve also heard that the teachers at Epsom are kind and have a great sense of humour.
A language-first programme for campers aged 9–16, building real Mandarin confidence and English leadership skills through immersive daily instruction, empowering them to speak, debate, and perform with conviction.

Mandarin Immersion & Leadership Camp is where students finally claim the language that surrounds them.
Malaysia is one of the most naturally Mandarin-rich environments in the world. It lives in the food stalls, the shophouses, the family conversations, the boardrooms. Yet for many students at international schools, it remains just out of reach. Heard but not spoken. Understood but not owned. This camp is designed to change that.
Over two immersive weeks on Epsom College Malaysia’s world-class campus, students spend their mornings in focused, oracy-first Mandarin sessions, speaking, arguing, and navigating real-world scenarios from Day 1. Afternoons shift to English: public speaking, structured debate, and the kind of leadership communication skills that set students apart in any room they walk into.
Campers develop the confidence to speak, lead, and present in two languages, leaving with measurable HSK progress and skills that compound far beyond the camp. By the end of Mandarin & Leadership Camp, campers will:
through oracy-first instruction, practical scenarios, and progressive HSK-aligned learning
sitting a placement assessment on Day 1 and a mock HSK on Day 10 for visible, credentialled proof of two weeks of focused work.
including structured argumentation, voice and presence, and the ability to listen and respond.
taking the stage at the closing ceremony in a Talent Show and bilingual Storytelling Showcase in front of a live audience.
through two weeks of residential life on one of Malaysia's finest campuses, away from comfort zones and daily routines.
Several of our dedicated students achieved remarkable gains of up to 3.0 CEFR sub-score units during an intensive 3-week programme, demonstrating strong commitment and effective learning strategies
Thank you very much for organising such a wonderful camp. Mizuki seems to have enjoyed it immensely. I’ve also heard that the teachers at Epsom are kind and have a great sense of humour.
I would also like to highlight that my children’s experience at the Wild Minds Camp has been overwhelmingly positive. They continue to talk about it and have described it as one of the best experiences they’ve had so far.
Dear Teacher,
Thank you for sharing such wonderful news. I’m delighted to hear that he is doing so well and enjoying his days at Epsom.
I also truly appreciate you taking such good care of him.
Thank you also for giving Jojo the opportunity to perform her ballet dance. We look forward to seeing you again!
I cannot thank you enough—he has become more mature and appreciative of everything he is given. He now takes nothing for granted and even expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to join the camp.
This transformation is incredible, especially considering the homesickness he experienced just a few weeks ago.
Thank you once again for your tremendous support and care!
Yes, his biggest improvement is that he now has the courage to speak English with foreigners, even asking foreign teachers for help—something he was too shy to do before. I would especially like to thank you for providing such valuable opportunities for children and for all the time and care you have taken to patiently guide and support them.
We are committed to maintaining an optimal camp size to ensure that every student enjoys a high-quality and enriching learning experience. Our small class sizes and strong student-to-staff ratios enable personalised attention and meaningful engagement.
The core teacher-to-student ratio is 1:18, with an overall adult-to-student ratio of 1:8 to 1:10 across all activities.
Students are supported by a team that includes lead instructors, the Programme Director, sports coaches, mentors, ensuring both academic and creative guidance throughout the camp.
Fluency isn’t required, but to get the most out of the experience, we recommend that campers have at least an intermediate level of English—B1 (30–39) on CEFR placement scales. The programme is designed with EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners in mind, with accessible resources, clear scaffolding, and a supportive learning environment.
Several members of the camp team speak multiple languages, and where language barriers arise, we also use AI tools to support understanding and translation. This helps ensure that all campers can engage meaningfully with the content, collaborate effectively, and grow in confidence throughout the experience.
At Epsom College, campers are accommodated in same-gender boarding houses with shared rooms designed to foster a strong sense of community and belonging.
Roommates are assigned based on age, gender, and, where possible, shared interests or project tracks. We aim to create a comfortable and positive living environment where campers can relax, connect, and make new friends.
If your child is attending with a friend and they’d like to room together, you can indicate this during registration—we’ll do our best to accommodate requests. Our team also checks in regularly to ensure campers feel settled and supported throughout their stay.
Meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner are served in buffet style and are provided throughout the camp. They are nutritious, balanced, and designed to cater to the needs of active, growing children.
Parents are asked to indicate any specific dietary requirements or restrictions during registration so that appropriate arrangements can be made in advance. If your child has complex dietary needs or severe allergies, we encourage you to reach out directly to our team so we can ensure their requirements are safely and fully met.
Student safety is our top priority during all outdoor activities and excursions. All activities are planned and delivered following comprehensive risk assessments, and are led by experienced staff with the appropriate training. Students are closely supervised at all times, with staff-to-student ratios suited to the nature of each activity and environment.
Key measures for safety and security during travel to Sandakan and throughout the Borneo segment of the programme include:
Parents will be provided with an itinerary, emergency contacts, and regular updates throughout the trip.
If a child becomes ill or injured during camp, they will be assessed and treated by qualified staff or referred promptly to a medical professional if needed. Parents or guardians will be notified as soon as possible in the event of any significant illness or injury or if external medical care is required.
The camp team will ensure that any medication or treatment needed is administered according to parental instructions and with proper documentation. Emergency contact details are kept on file and used when necessary to ensure timely communication and consent for care.
All campers are required to have comprehensive travel insurance covering medical expenses, trip cancellation or interruption, baggage loss, and personal liability. Parents are responsible for purchasing insurance for their children. We strongly recommend adding both travel and medical insurance as a precaution.
Yes, campers are required to bring their own laptop for the camp. While a laptop is recommended—especially for projects and group work—campers may use iPads as an alternative to access learning materials and the dedicated learning website. Ideally, iPads should be paired with a keyboard accessory to ensure functionality similar to a laptop.
Give your child the gift of growth, connection, and
confidence through our one-of-a-kind learning adventures.
